Sour Words: Assignment 2

Some words can leave a very sour impression. Just the sight of them can remind you of an idea that is distasteful or that sparks negative feelings. It is the emotions we associate with words which determine our fondness for them or our disgust. These terms may also describe something dark or may inspire darkness because of the personal memories associated with them.

"Hatred, violence, and betrayal" are words that create a pessimistic reaction in me every time I read them on paper.

"Hatred" is a word that always offends me because it is heavy with dark emotion. It describes a very harsh place of feeling for anyone to be. It is a symptom of inner conflict. This is a word that reminds me of something or someone that has become unbalanced and is drowning in unhappiness.

It is easy to see how "violence" is not a pleasant word. It is often associated with physical combat and death. I dislike this word intensely because it reminds me of barbaric acts and defenseless people. I understand there are times violence is necessary, but these are the damaging thoughts that initially spring to mind.

"Betrayal" is one of the worst actions anyone can commit; therefore, I cannot separate the action from the word. Every time I read it in a book or in an article, it immediately hooks my attention but for the wrong reasons.
